Ken Nordine - Colors

Ken Nordine is best known for his voice overs in movie trailers. You will definitely recognize his deep resonant voice from every action movie trailer you have ever seen. He is also known for his Word Jazz. Basically spoken word with jazz accompaniment. This was released in 1966 and is some pretty crazy stuff. This album has 34 tracks each about a different color. I personally have never heard of the colors russet, azure, or puce. But this is totally hilarious. This might be some of the weirdest music I own.

Arthur Lyman - Mele Kalikimaka

So I realized that it is now the middle of December and I have not posted any Christmas music. Well that is about to end. Arthur Lyman was born in Hawaii in the 1930's. It is funny, there are quite a lot of Hawaiian Christmas albums out there. And there are a lot of Surf Christmas albums too. Well, Mele Kalikimaka means Merry Christmas in Hawaiian. I don't know when this came out, but I guess it doesn't matter. Enjoy some Hawaiian Christmas Exotica.

Unearth - The Stings of Conscience

I was looking at some unearth stuff on the web earlier. I noticed in their merchandise section via Metal Blade, there was no Stings of Conscience. So I guess anything that Unearth did with Eulogy is right out. I think this is their best album and it hurts me to see that it gets no love. So here it is...

Classical Music For The Masses Part II - Mozart's Requiem

This is Mozart's Requiem. He composed this piece on his deathbed. Apparently at the time of his death only the opening movement was fully completed with all orchestral and vocal parts written. All other movements were incomplete. The exact history of this piece is unknown. After Mozart's death there were a few composers that tried to finish it going by directions left or just trying to stay in the style that Mozart composed. So I guess that is fun. Well anyhoo, this is an amazing and dramatic piece of music. Everyone should enjoy this one.

Classical Music For The Masses Part I - Stravinsky - Le Sacre Du Printemps

This is the first of a series of classical music posts. I don’t think enough people listen to classical music. So I am going to try and change that hopefully. The first piece I would showcase is Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. This is one of the most important pieces in classical history. It premiered in Paris in 1913. This piece of music is actually a ballet. Spectators went to the opening night expecting an eloquent and graceful performance. They couldn’t have been more wrong about what they were about to see. From the opening dissonant bassoon solo members of the audience started shouting and booing the orchestra. Next, arguments started and literally a full on riot insued. I read a New York Times account of the incident where it described fist fights, people getting bludgeoned in the head with canes, and by the intermission the Paris police had arrived. Stravinsky was responsible for the first mosh-pit. The orchestra and the dancers stayed on stage throughout the performance and finished the piece. The fact that classical music literally was responsible for people beating the shit out of each other...you know it is good. So I suggest listening to this over and over again, it is truly amazing.

These were the good old days when drummers had two kick drums. I seriously just got chills from watching this...Pause

Rebel Meets Rebel

Here is Dimebag's country rock band. It rocks. All the members of Pantera minus Phil with David Allen Coe on vocals.

Pantera - Far Beyond Driven

Today is the fifth anniversary of the murder of Dimebag Darrell. He definitely was my biggest musical influence when I was starting to play music. I have been listening to Pantera since the fourth grade and right now Far Beyond Driven is my top choice. It used to be Vulgar, then Trendkill, now it is this. So here it is.
